July 14, 2016 – San Francisco, CA – 6connect has extended its strategic partnership with Swisscom, Switzerland’s leading telecommunications provider. 6connect also welcomes Swisscom as an equity investor, joining Hummer Winblad Venture Partners.
Swisscom ranks as one of the leading Swiss providers specializing in the integration and operation of complex IT systems, with 6.4 million mobile customers, more than one million Swisscom TV customers, and approximately two million retail broadband connections.
Swisscom’s Strategic Fund invests in state-of-the-art technologies that are of strategic importance to Swisscom from a technological, commercial, or operational point of view. Their aim is to strengthen relationships with innovative suppliers and technology partners.
According to 6connect CEO Aaron Hughes, “We are pleased to see the continued growth of our relationship with Swisscom as they continue to drive the adoption of new products and services for their customers. Having ProVision be a part of their infrastructure automation strategy at such a large scale is exciting, and also a great validation of how we work with strategic partners.”
Regarding the partnership, Pär Lange, Investment Director at Swisscom Ventures, said, “6connect’s approach to automation addresses quite a few challenges with physical and virtual networks – how to improve the agility of your current network infrastructure without sacrificing reliability and adoption of future network technologies.”
In 2015, Swisscom started using 6connect’s ProVision solutions to automate provisioning of network infrastructure across several business units, and continues to expand their ProVision deployment in 2016. Utilizing ProVision allows Swisscom to decrease the required infrastructure provisioning time and increase the scalability of their API-driven management tools, which are especially crucial for maintaining accurate records of IPv4 and IPv6 address information and related metadata.
Adopting 6connect ProVision was driven by the need to centralize infrastructure provisioning tasks for legacy network components and increase Swisscom’s agility for adoption of SDN/NFV technologies via API-driven workflows.
